Working closely with dentists, dental hygienists perform routine cleanings, examine patients for oral diseases, take dental X-rays, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices. Their role is essential in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental issues through thorough cleanings and patient education. Dental hygienists typically work in dental offices, though opportunities may also exist in public health clinics, schools, and research settings. A degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and a state license are required to practice.
